"Cabin Fever Sucks"

Films: The Shining (1980)

Alias: None

Type: Natural

Location: Haunted Home

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: They say that the Overlook Hotel is a supernatural place that drives every caretaker insane. But honestly, we can be sure whether Mr. Torrance was right in the head to begin with or not. Perhaps this place has a way with dealing with the wicked...

History: Jack Torrance was a beleaguered and somewhat volatile man who has recently become the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado. It's a nice place, except his son has psychic powers that enable him to see the horrific past of the hotel, and the spirits who inhabit it constantly bring out the worst in the man. Jack is slowly losing his mind at this point…

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After having gone completely off his rocker, Jack chases his son into a large hedge maze, but gets lost in the process, and while the rest of his family escapes, he's left to freeze to death. His likeness then inexplicably appears in a picture showing previous caretakers...

Powers/Abilities: None, though it's possible that his insanity enables him to see the ghosts of the hotel.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-Jack Nicholson just has that natural unhinged look to him, and it gives Jack a very upsetting image, even at his most benign. Worse, it's heavily implied that all the supernatural stuff (well, most of it anyway) is in his head. He was always a bit of a psychopath, and it shows...

Trivia: -Other potential actors for Jack were Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, and Harrison Ford. Just imagine Indiana Jones himself coming at you with an axe...

-Director Stanley Kubrick was notoriously awful to his actors. Shelley Duvall in particular was sent on a trip to trauma-ville when she had to endure the constant screaming and yelling from a man who would do the same take over a hundred times just to get it right. He wanted her to actually look and act traumatized, and he succeeded. We're not fond of him for this.

And an excercise in patience for the actors.

Forget Jack. THIS is the horror!

Totally the face of mental health.
It'll be here forever and ever.

"Come now. Would a crazy person do any of this? Let me bash you in for reference."
Madness...madness among unintentional hilarity.

All that was left after one crazy night.

The Frozen prequel is looking rather dark, even for Disney.
